Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapy is an extremely gentle touch technique, which encourages movement of fluid and other substances into the lymphatic vessels.
MLD is a very gentle, relaxing massage technique, working on the lymphatic system just under the skin. MLD is believed to
- reduce fluid congestion in the face and body - puffy eyes, swollen ankles
- have a beneficial effect on damaged skin - due to wounds and burns - including old scars
- can be used to enhance healing - for example following cosmetic surgery
- have a detoxifying effect, strengthening the immune system
- have a beneficial effect on acne
MLD is an important treatment for the control of lymphoedema, and is frequently recommended where lymphoedema occurs following breast cancer surgery/removal of lymphatic nodes. If you have this condition, please check with your specialist before undergoing MLD treatment, and bring written confirmation of your specialist's support to your first appointment.
